Chicago july 2010.
The constant theme of the contest was bad weather - it's a miracle every event actually happened.
PARK
PRELIMS
www.vitalbmx.com: Craig Mast crashed in prelims doing a frontflip flair due to his grip coming off of his bars from being wet. Crazy. Last years top three; Garrett Reynolds, Dave Mirra, and Daniel Dhers were prequalified for the finals. It was UK-based shredder and Vital BMX favorite Dean Cueson's first ever Dew Tour. He made it out of open qualifiers, but couldn't make the cut for finals. He'll be on the tour, though, which is awesome.

Park Qualifying Results: 1. D

FINALS
Brian Tunney, espn.go.com/action/bmx/blog, july 2010: Park was moved forward a bit to let the dirt jumps dry out from yesterday's rain. Hyper's Mike Spinner, who spent most of last year recovering from an injury, said he, "Had new moves he was working on." And in his first run, he dropped one of them: the 1080 turndown. This was in between a quadruple whip over the box and a triple tailwhip on a quarter; moves that weren't necessarily repeated by anyone else during the day. In the end, Spinner held on to his win, followed by Daniel Dhers in second (who did an awesome barspin to cancan 720) and Garrett Reynolds in third, who dropped in with a double truck on the course and continued into a double barspin 540. It was a truly good park comp, one that could've went any way (new tricks, consistency, craziness, etc.) In the end, the judges went with new tricks, and you gotta give Mike Spinner credit for coming out swinging in the first Dew event of the year.
www.vitalbmx.com: Ryan Nyquist had an amazing run in finals. He would have definitely been on the podium and possibly taken the win, but he crashed a backflip over the box backwards right before the buzzer. Mark Webb pulled a perfect decade to 360 in finals. Pat Casey, the youngster from SoCal, made it out of open qualifiers and then made it into finals. He rode great and ended up in 8th. After seeing him ride Warriors Of Wood and now this, it's clear this kid is going to be around for a long time. Gary Young had an awesome run in finals and was the weekend favorite of make of the other pro riders. His run included a bunch of high speed lines and transfers - exactly what you'd expect from Gary. Andy Buckworth and Mark Webb both did awesome, unexpected 900s. Mike Spinner came out swinging and couldn't be topped. His run included a quad whip (to the seat, no pedals), a 1080 turndown, a 540 tailwhip, and a triple tailwhip air. Had he pulled the quad whip to the pedals, it would have been a perfect run for Spinner. Either way, it was still enough to give him the win.
Press release: After sitting out most of the 2009 Dew Tour season due to an injury, Spinner started the season off right by earning a first place score of 92.50. He threw out his signature quadruple tailwhip and a 1080 for his second Dew Tour win of his career. Twenty-five-year-old Daniel Dhers of Venezuela came in second with a 92.13. Defending Dew Cup champion, Garrett Reynolds, 19, of Toms River, N.J. placed a close third with a score of 91.63. "After missing most of last season, I couldn't be more excited to start the year off with a Dew Tour win," said Spinner. "The competition is tough this year, but I'm excited to see what the season will bring and how it will all pan out in Vegas."

VERT
FINALS
Fat Tony, bmx.transworld.net, july 2010: Due to the rain and wind there were no vert prelims, so instead of only ten guys riding in the finals, all 20 riders fought for a spot on the podium. And to no surprise, Jamie Bestwick threw down a run of epic proportions and took home another Dew Tour win.
Brian Tunney, espn.go.com/action/bmx/blog, july 2010: Vert, well, it was no surprise. Jamie Bestwick won, followed by Chad Kagy in second and Steve McCann in third. I would go more into it, but it looks like Jamie Bestwick is ready to turn his five-time undefeated Dew Cup championship into a six-peat. Finishing over two full points ahead of second place, there's no real way to get around saying that vert is always a battle for second place when Bestwick is on deck. And that battle was close, with Kagy scoring 92.75, followed by McCann's 92.38.
Press release: As a five-time, undefeated BMX Vert Dew Cup champion, Bestwick, is setting himself up for a six-peat by starting off the season placing first with a 95.38. Bestwick's consistency at the top of the podium was earned through his massive alley-oop variations and a turn-down flair. Chad Kagy, 31 from Gilroy, Calif., placed second with a 92.75 and Australian Steven McCann, 27, rounded out the podium in third with a 92.38."It's a great start to the season. I'm super excited to take the first stop, but we still have three more and I never underestimate my competition," said Bestwick. "The next three stops are going to be the hardest of my life. Everybody makes it to Vegas so I know the heat is going to be turned up."

Vert Final Results: (*Top 3 automatically make finals at the next stop of the Dew Tour in Portland, Oregon in August.)

DIRT
FINALS
Brian Tunney, espn.go.com/action/bmx/blog, july 2010: The final event of the day, literally bullied by storm clouds and the occasional drizzle, was dirt. And it was history in the making. Coming off a BMX Masters win, DK's Brett Banasiewicz pulled his dream run, consisting of a barspin off the roll-in to front flip no-hander to truck driver to barspin up to triple whip, and finishing with a wallride to tailwhip. In a close second was Redline's Brandon Dosch, followed by Australia's Luke Parslow. "I wanted to play it safe for the first two runs, so I put a lot more pressure on the third run," said Banasiewicz. "I'm just looking to stay healthy, ride my bike and keep riding the Dew Tour." Brett is the youngest BMX athlete to win a final in Dew Tour history.
www.vitalbmx.com: Dirt prelims were terrible due to the wind and the final was rescheduled numerous times. It finally went down at the very end of the weekend, but it definitely wasn't what the riders expected. The course was pretty beat and the rain had done some damage.
TJ Lavin came out and rode. It was his first contest in quite sometime. He made it out of open qualifiers with classic moves like his signature superman nothing. Always awesome to see him in the mix. Corey Bohan made finals, but went home before the event started due to the weather. Ryan Nyquist, Brandon Dosch, and TJ Ellis were automatically in the finals due to their placings last year. Brandon, however, was the only one of the three to make it to the podium in Chicago. Jaie Toohey was doing the biggest backflips of the weekend. Sooooo high. This was Seth Klinger's first time making dirt finals and he ended up in fourth. His runs consisted of 360 tables, 360 no handers, frontflips, 720s, and more. He's definitely a contender to to good in dirt this year. Luke Parslow rode amazing in finals and even did a double tailwhip; which is a new one for him. He took a much deserved third place and will be in the finals in Portland. Brett "Maddog" Banasiewicz had went all the way from open qualifiers to winning the contest. There was no question that he deserved the win. His runs included front flips, triple whips, decades, and all kinds of other moves that this kid is waaaaaaaay too good at. Maddog is one of the few riders that could legitimately win dirt and park at any event.
Press release: The youngest BMX athlete to win a final in Dew Tour history, Banasiewicz was a BMX dirt crowd favorite as a semi-local from South Bend, Ind. The 15-year-old's winning run included a barspin off the roll-in, front flip no hander, truck driver, barspin up jump down triple whip and a wall ride to tail whip to earn the top score of the night with a 92.94. Fellow Midwesterner, Brandon Dosch age 21 from Lake Orion, Mich., took the second place position with a 90.56 and Australia's Luke Parslow, 25, finished third with an 89.69. "I wanted to play it safe for the first two runs, so I put a lot more pressure on the third run," said Banasiewicz. "I'm just looking to stay healthy, ride my bike and keep riding the Dew Tour."
