Event: CFB 2005 round 1
Date: May 13-15, 2005.
Place: Oklahoma City OK.
Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: Oklahoma! What a place to hold a contest in the middle of May. The weather is like a bi-polar mental patient. One day it is nice and calm and the next day is extreme humidity, strong winds and occasional rain. Fortunately, good karma was among us. When it was show time, the weather would break long enough for us to have a good session. The first day of events started with 16 and under street. There was a lot of good stuff from the young ones. So, keep an eye out for them in the near future.
VERT
Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: The rest of the day consisted of am and pro vert. There was a good turn out for am. It was a good thing because the past few years had been slim. There was also discussion to postpone pro until the next day. Luckily, when it was time to run pro vert finals, the sun appeared and the wind calmed. So, the verdict was for everyone to get it on. Kevin Robinson came out on top with high airs, flair variations and 540's. Chad Kagy and Jimmy Walker finished 2nd and 3rd place. Chad had great variations and managed to throw in a clean double whip. Chad almost died three times when he tried a unique flair whip. One attempt put him on the deck as if he had tried a normal fly out. Jimmy went high both ways and pulled good tricks with great back-to-back style. Amateur BMX Vert Finals:

DIRT
Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: Day two was all dirt and a little street. It seemed there was more water than dirt. The previous night, the great Oklahoma weather dumped a good inch of rain and soaked the dirt jumps. With a torch, the Sun and hard work from the builders, the jumps were ready by high noon for the ams. The ams who participated had some skill and guts. The jumps were big and the roll in was massive. Some riders said it was scarier than the jumps themselves. The weather managed to stay nice again for pro prelims and finals. Ryan Guettler showed up with a list of dialed tricks; front flips, tail whips, 360's and first place. Chris Doyle finished 2nd place and did every 360 variation imaginable. Ryan Nyquist won 3rd place with a no footed can-can bar spin. Pro BMX Dirt Finals

Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: Later that night, there was an art show and flatland jam at the old train station down town. The art show consisted of photography, litho prints, mixed media, paintings and short films all from creative BMX riders.
PARK
Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: The final day consisted of street and excellent weather. Seventeen and older am started at noon with some good riding at hand. It almost turned into a showdown at high noon between the Missouri crew and the home team (Oklahoma.) A visitor, Zack Warden won a well-matched contest. Pro prelims began mid afternoon followed by finals that evening. It was no surprise Morgan Wade won 1st place. Morgan went super high in the large pocket and 720'd the volcano among all the other nutty Morgan tricks. He is nuts! Ryan Nyquist took 2nd place with a giant suicide no-handed flip over the volcano along with other signature Nyquists runs. Ryan Guettler stood on the podium again with 3rd place. A highlight from his run included the smoothest wall ride to flair. Amateur BMX Park Finals:

Jeremie, www.hoffmanbikes.com, may 2005: There was chatter at the end of the weekend that this was one of the best Dirt and Park comps in recent years. Every year the CFB gets better and better. Be sure to keep you ears open for CFB next year.
